Privacy Policy
Effective October 24, 2026 · CompetitiveShooter.org LLC · Questions: name-align6u@icloud.com
This Privacy Policy explains what CompetitiveShooter.org LLC ("CompetitiveShooter.org," "we," "us," or "our") collects when you use the website at competitiveshooter.org and its related services (the "Service"), how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Service. By using the Service you agree to this policy.
The short version: we collect what we need to run a community site for competitive shooters, we don't run ads, and we don't sell your personal information.
1. Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address, a password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in plain text), and your public handle. We also record when you accepted the Terms and which version.
- Profile. Optionally, a display name, a short bio, an avatar photo, your home city and county, and the clubs you belong to.
- Shooter identifiers. Optionally, the organizations you compete in and your member number, classification, and division with each.
- Content. Posts, photos, comments, votes, event submissions and flyers, the members you follow, and the members you block, along with any reason or note you add to a block or report.
- Messages to us. Anything you send to name-align6u@icloud.com.
2. Information collected automatically
- Session records. When you sign in we store the IP address and browser (user agent) of that session, so you can recognize your own logins and we can investigate abuse. These are removed when you sign out of that session or delete your account.
- Server logs. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested page, time, browser) for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and small preference cookies for your theme and color choices and for which of our former domain names you arrived from. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies.
- Activity counts. We count things like posts, comments, votes, and follows per hour and per day to enforce rate limits and trust levels.
We do not collect precise location from your device. If you add a home city and county, that is what we store.
3. What is public
The Service is a public community. Your handle, posts, photos, comments, and event submissions once published are visible to anyone on the internet, including search engines, and may be copied or shared by others. Upvote totals are shown on profiles.
Your profile page, home area, and club memberships are private by default and appear only if you turn them on in your settings. Your email address, shooter identifiers, votes, blocks, followers list, and private username are never shown publicly. Your display name, if you set one, appears alongside your handle.
Photos you upload are re-encoded before they are shown, and all embedded metadata, including GPS location, camera details, and timestamps, is removed; the original file is deleted once the cleaned copy is ready.
4. How we use information
- To provide and operate the Service: your account, the feed, event listings, following, notifications, and the rest.
- To confirm your email address and send you account emails: confirmation links, password resets, email-change confirmations, and a notice when your account is deleted. We do not send marketing email.
- To keep the community safe: enforcing our Terms, rate limits, trust levels, blocks, and reports; detecting duplicate or throwaway accounts; and investigating abuse or security incidents.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
- To comply with law, enforce our rights, and protect the safety of our users and the public.
- To understand how the Service is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it.
5. How we share information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share it only:
- With service providers that process it on our behalf and under our instructions: DigitalOcean (hosting and database), Cloudflare (image storage and delivery), and Resend (sending email). Typed range addresses, but not your identity, are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find map coordinates.
- Publicly, as described in Section 3, when you post content or turn on a public setting.
- For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or is necessary to enforce our Terms, protect our rights or property, or protect the safety of any person.
- In a transfer of the Service, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case the recipient takes over this policy's obligations.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can edit your profile, change your email address or password, and delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Deleting your account removes your account record, profile, shooter identifiers, posts, photos, comments, votes, follows, blocks, notifications, sessions, and event submissions. After deletion:
- Your former handle may be reserved for up to six months so nobody can impersonate you, and then released.
- Reports you filed about other members may be kept, without your account, so moderation history stays intact.
- Copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before they roll off, and in material other members have quoted or re-shared.
- Messages you emailed us are kept as ordinary correspondence.
We may keep information longer where the law requires it or where it is needed to resolve a dispute or enforce our Terms.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction. Your profile settings show and let you change the information we hold about you. For anything you can't see there, email us.
- Deletion. Delete your account from your settings, or email us to ask.
- Visibility. Public profile, home area, and club visibility are each separate opt-in switches.
- Email. We only send account emails; there is nothing to unsubscribe from other than by deleting your account.
- Cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, but you will not be able to stay signed in.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, including rights to access, port, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information and to complain to a supervisory authority. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not discriminate against anyone for exercising their rights. To make a request, email name-align6u@icloud.com; we may need to verify your identity first, and we will respond within the time the applicable law requires.
8. Children
The Service is for adults. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, email us and we will remove it.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information: encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access limited to the people who operate the Service, and reputable hosting providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as applicable law requires.
10. Where your information is stored
The Service is hosted in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
11. Links to other sites
The Service links to ranges, clubs, registration systems, and other sites we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own, and this policy does not cover them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when the current version took effect. If a change is material we will tell you by posting a notice on the Service, emailing you, or asking you to accept the new version when you next sign in. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept it.
13. Contact
Questions or requests about this policy or your information can be sent to CompetitiveShooter.org LLC at name-align6u@icloud.com.
